Something about my induction week: Hyson Green

Last week has been the Induction week. An introduction to the course, our teachers and also a way to meet my new coworkers. The first task that has forced the class to socialize has been a work about the topic of global-local/local-local connections in the Hyson Green neighborhood, in Nottingham.

The task consisted in analyzing and reading these connections through sketches, photos and videos.

I worked with other three people and, after the excursion and the discussion done together, we decided to focus on these themes: "mixed colture" (different shops with different languages, from where?) , "traffic", the "layout" of the area (why are there different colour of walkways?), "colorful" shops (the shops are so colorful to attract people?), what our "senses" felt (what kind of music? what kind of smells?), and "local shops" (what are they selling? For which kind of costumer?).

Discussing, we made a lot of comparisons between each of us and our hometowns. I have seen a lot of differences between this neighborhood and Rome. For instance, I never seen a local market in the middle of a supermarket's carparking. Why is it there and not in another position? Probably it has been located there and then the near supermarket has been built later. But the structure above seems recent. Probably to give back importance and relevance to the local market?
