Something about my induction week: visit to Yorkshire Sculpture Park

In the same week we visited the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Looking at the garden I understanded immediately that it was an old garden in which has been then placed the Gallery. But the most fascinating thing for me was the idea of a sculpture park.

In the same park we have visited the "Deer Shelter Skyspace" by James Turrell.

I didn't know this artist and for me it has been an amazing discovery. This because I'm very interested in playing with light, shadows and shapes.
I admit that when I went inside this space I didn't understand the reason of that big square hole on the ceiling.

But when I glanced down I have seen seatings along all the perimeter of the wall and I decided to sit there. From a totally different point of view I started to see different things and to make me questions. For example: why the concrete panels don't cover all the wall? What has been the reason by which J. Turrell has decided to make this thing? Probably it was useless for what were his goals.

Looking in front of me I started to analyze the seatings. In concrete again, as a continoum of the panels but with a gap between them. Probably to make the rain pass under them? Could be, since the hole in the ceiling is open.

And then, again a gap between the seating and the paviment. This could be the place in which the rain fall and then is carried outside (with the help of slopes?).

Looking at the paviment is possible to see the shape of the square hole, due to rain and dirty things fallen from the ceiling. I'm asking if it is a wanted effect from the artist.

Also on the wall it's possible to see the shape of the square, but not as a piece of sky, or a frame on the concrete but as a fragment of light. In this case, it's a movable shape that change intensity and position depending on the sun.
